When you hire a senior or family portrait photographer, you want the best. Shouldn't you use a professional photographer whose quality you can trust? Correct posing and lighting, the ability to anticipate those once-in-a-lifetime moments and most importantly, extensive experience, can make all the difference in the visual records of your life. You want to look your absolute best in portraits, whether you are a high school senior, a bride, a parent or anyone else wanting to capture a memory.
Unfortunately, today in Anchorage and Wasilla, there are dozens of beginners with a digital camera and a website, claiming to be a "professional photographer." Advertising copy cats, uncertified PPA members, advertising gimmicks, and fictitious claims abound. Ensuring that you get the best senior, or family photographer for the job can be a difficult task. To make it easier for you to find a truly professional photographer, Professional Photographers of America offers the PPA Certified program.
What is PPA Certified?
PPA Certified is a designation granted by Professional Photographers of America, the world’s leading certification agency of, and largest Association for, imaging professionals. Those who have earned PPA Certification have passed a comprehensive written examination measuring their technical and artistic expertise, and have successfully submitted their work to a panel of judges for review and approval.
As the leading certifying agency and association for imaging professionals, PPA’s Certification program is recognized throughout the industry as a sign of excellence. When you see a graduation photographer displaying the PPA Certified seal, you can be assured that he or she is among the less than 8% of all imaging professionals who have successfully completed and maintained these requirements.
If the senior portrait photographer your considering claims industry recognition ask “what organization recognizes them” and what they did to earn this title? If they claim to be a “master Photographer” ask what university or professional group awarded them a degree or certificate.
Every five years, a PPA Certified photographer must renew his or her credentials by participating in continuing education programs and periodically submitting senior portraits for critical evaluation. This helps assure you that PPA Certified portrait photographers maintain their level of expertise and continue to develop new skills and techniques. Keepsake just completed the re-certification process as of May 2008, maintaining our status as Alaska’s only PPA certified professional photographer.
